Now that CIC has helped you improve your credit score, here are a few helpful hints on how to maintain good credit for a rewarding future.
Many consumers cancel or close old credit cards, but this is not helpful. Once a credit line is paid, leave it open and don’t touch it. Creditors want to see that you have credit available but have the ability to not use it.
Try to not open frivolous accounts. A free t-shirt is not worth lowering your credit score.
Keep old accounts open so that your report shows available credit.
Don’t let a few negative items hold you back. We all make mistakes. If a few items are lingering on your credit, relax—they come off in 7 years, but CIC can help to remove them sooner.
Pay your bills on time. Current delinquencies hurt your credit severely.
Stay informed. Keep track of your report for inaccurate items that may appear.
Educate your friends and family so that they don’t make mistakes with their credit. Tell them how CIC has helped you!
